What is HvyBlk?
Hvyblk, hands down is one of the sickest clothing brands I’ve ever seen in a while. Not just that it’s anime related, but just their overall style is one of the most creepy, erotic clothing out there. I can’t really say any more than I already did, but here is an interview that I had with the creator and designer of the hvyblk.
Q&A with hvyblk:
1. What is hvyblk?
Heavy Black aka HVY BLK is the name I do work under for all of the various things i produce in the field of graphic design, screen print, street art, fashion, fine art realm.
2. How/Why did you get into starting this clothing brand?
I started by making things for myself I couldn’t find anywhere else. I’ve always loved the medium of clothing to have my visual work on. I dropped out of high school to pursue my dreams of learning screen printing/apparel production, so I could be as hands on as possible with clothes I wanted to make. I’ve been making shirts & accessories roughly about ten years now, but only in the recent years under the name hvy blk which I have chosen as my final moniker for the time being. At the end of the day, I just want to make clothes I’d like to wear myself.
3. What inspires you in creating these different designs?
I have tons of inspirations from fetish & erotic culture, as well as anime, manga & video games as well as the music I listen to. All of the things i make have references from things in my life whether it be a song, something I’m watching or personal relationships I’m going through.
4. What is your favorite anime? Is this what affects the style of clothing you create?
That’s a very huge question for me. Haha, I could spend hours coming up with shows but heres a short list of some favorites: akira, cowboy bebop, urusei yatsura, lupin, evangelion, dragonball, sailor moon, patalabor, beck, flcl, cromartie high school, colorful, ping pong the animation, kids on the slope, one punch man, danmachi, kill la kill, detroit metal city. I have a wide range of shows and genres i watch and while I’m making things i definitely have them in my mind when I’m putting pieces together but i wouldn’t say only anime affects my style there are so many other things in my mind when i am in the process of creating,ultimately i want to make things that even someone who doesn’t necessarily watch anime normally would also like as well.
5. What are your future plans with the brand? Will you bring back past designs?
For the future of the brand, I want to keep on expanding everything, but more specifically work on more custom pieces and accessories other than our standard shirts. I also have a long list of designers & artists I’d love to work and collaborate with that I am working my way through. Also, I have finally gotten my passport, so I plan to travel around the world for new inspirations & experiences I can incorporate into the things I produce.
