A couple of weeks ago, I was given the privilege to attend Anime Los Angeles in Long Beach, CA. When I was checking out all the amazing booths in the convention hall, there was some booth, specifically that stood out to me. The booth was the home to Ignition Industries. After checking out their booth and amazing artwork, I just thought, I must interview them and share with the community their amazing work. Before you know it, I reached out to them and this interview came to be.

INTERVIEW WITH IGNITION INDUSTRIES
1.What is Ignition Industries?
Ignition Industries is a passion project between me and a friend, and we kicked off in early 2023. Basically, we’re all about celebrating the cool mechanical vibes you find in classic anime, movies, and games.
2.If you had to describe the style of artwork that your team brings, how would you describe it?
We’ve been on a bit of a style adventure in our first year. On one hand, we’ve got this classic cel-shaded anime vibe going on. Think sharp lines, a handful of colors, and a bold graphic punch. On the other hand, we’re diving into cinematic splash art, where the focus is on capturing the overall mood and vibe of the design.
3.We love all the different designs that your team brings. Is there any inspiration behind all of the designs?
The fuel for our creative engine comes from the classics – think Akira, Evangelion, and Ghost in the Shell and the video games that shared the similar design characteristic: Metal Gear, Wipeout, etc.
JDM Culture is also a main inspiration, the classic automotive designs from 80s Japan are just so cool.
4.I’ve noticed that a bunch of the designs are based off of anime, cars, and games. What are some of your favorites?
I’m just your typical ’90s kid who grew up on Initial D, Wangan Midnight, and Need for Speed underground and carbon. Fast Forward to today, it’s my time to give back, turning those nostalgic memories into art.
5.What are some of the favorite projects that you’ve worked on?
One of my top gigs was crafting spaceships for The Expanse. I’ve been around in the Canadian film industry doing concept art, mostly in the sci-fi realm. The Expanse? It’s like a love letter to sci-fi, so working on it was a blast. Definitely one for the books.
6.Are there any collaborations or opportunities that Ignition Industries would like to work with?
I look forward to the day we dive into collaborations with video games, anime, and the automotive world. That’s the dream.
