Designer Con 2023 was held this year at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA from December 15th-17th. This art and design convention combines the cultures behind art toys, artwork, and everything in between that connects these lovely artists and us, the ones who appreciate their work. Before you know it, it has expanded to include small clothing brands, pop culture related booths, and so much more!
This year, I was able to check out their VIP Night, which some attendees are able to see the convention hall for a couple hours before it mainly begins Saturday. The VIP attendees would be able to walk the floor to check out the booths, the panels, and more! It’s great! Based off of what I saw that night, let me tell you guys about my favorite booths that I saw!
POPMART is one of my favorite booths. I’ve always been a fan of the toys that they make and so, it was a great time seeing their booth! I’m always looking forward to the cool and cute toys they have.
OBEY, OBEY, OBEY… definitely always refreshing to see! Every time I see that Andre the Giant image, I always think of my childhood…seeing those posters plastered on the walls, or when they started making clothes. I loved wearing those amazing pieces of art on clothes. It was wonderful!
NTWRK, one of the newer upcoming companies that feature all sorts of things: clothes, art collectibles, plushies, etc. They know the ins and outs of the streetwear, urban culture scene. I always like looking at their displays where they feature a bunch of different art collectibles, such as BE@RBRICKs, Takashi Murakami’s plushies, or even the more underground artist works. They were also selling some of these items as well. Behind them, they even have this Honda Lab booth where it showed some clothes and furniture made from upcycled Honda-branded clothes. It was cool!
MEDICOM… definitely a staple at Designer Con. They feature a bunch of BE@RBRICKs, kaiju figures, or even some art collectibles from Japan. I always look forward to their booth because they always have a bunch of BE@RBRICKs on display. It feels like a museum walking through there. This year, it was so rough to get through that line though… so unfortunately, we were not able to check it out! Just appreciated it from afar!
SMILE MART (GOOD SMILE COMPANY)
Good Smile Company coming out to DesignerCon feels like my worlds are merging. If you don’t already know, I;m a huge weeb. LOL. Seeing this booth, gets me excited! LOL. Good Smile Company had their booth as if it was a little super market and they would sell all the different Nendoroids, artwork, or anime-merchandise. It’s refreshing to see!
1M Robots was the most exciting for me…for all of us… Their concept of having customizable robot figures and being able to change out the body parts was so cool, it made me want to buy one so bad! It’s cool that we were able to meet the creators of these robots and how each of these were handmade, handpainted… definitely adds to the uniqueness of the product. I definitely want to get one in the future!
Below are some more photos of other booths that I took of the event. Check it out!
Designer Con is still considered one of my favorite conventions. So sad to hear it being moved to Las Vegas next year, but one day, I will check it out there and give you guys my little experience.
