What is Kaomoji Clothing?
Kaomoji is a clothing brand that was started by James and Leticia back in September of 2015. Their clothing is heavily based on the anime and Japanese culture, and have been hitting the masses internationally.
Their clothing gives off a street wear feel with an anime look and some minimalism, which hits the fashion world right now.
I was introduced to their clothing back in 2015 when they dropped their WORLDS hoodie, which meant a lot for me. I loved Porter Robinson, so why not? HAHA. Every drop they’ve made since has been fire and I’m still hooked on their brand.
Product Review (include fast shipping)
Let’s talk about their products!
The new stuff that I got was mainly from their New Collection.
Their hoodie is of the softest quality. It’s great because they have thumbholes (which I love), a pocket in the kangaroo pouch for your phone, and they have little loops within the hood itself that holds your earphones. I love the print/embroidery overlap of a design. The details in her eyes look great, and the stitching is clean. Side note: There’s a loop in the back of the hoodie, that I like to use to hook the hoodie up and hang it. xD
The shirt is great! It’s in a nice navy color with an offset almost creamish color font. Very simple and simplistic, and the thickness of the font is thick! It won’t wear out fast and not crack after multiple washes. The shirt quality itself is nice. It’s thin so it feels more breathable than most shirts, so it’s a nice piece to wear under a flannel or jacket.
The Kanagawa facemask is thick. There have been thin face masks that felt like it was just for the design, but they put some thought in their face masks. The elastic portion is bigger so for people with BIG HEADS LIKE ME, you won’t have a problem. What’s great about this other than the realistic wave design is that they come with these PM2.5 filters to help you actually protect what you’re breathing! xD
The Kanagawa facemask also comes with all the great qualities of the previous mask. I love the design that they have with this, from the pattern, to the red bogo offsetting the back design. The color choices made on this were great, and it’s just a clean mask overall to take your outfit to the next level.
Interview with Kaomoji:
I know your guys’ brand for a while now and we’ve all been friends since, but I’ve always wondered, why are you guys called Kaomoji? Why did you decide to name your brand that? Is there any origins behind it?
We feel that fashion, like kaomoji, helps you to express your emotions. So, with kaomoji, we want to inspire people to express themselves in their clothing, and to show their love for anime culture and Japanese street wear.
Since your brand is heavily anime/Japanese culture inspired, what was the main inspiration for the brand? Do you have any major influencers that affected the brand?
Most of the influence are things that we see in Anime and Manga. Two of our major influencers are Virgil Abloh and Takashi Murakami. If we take our “Sayonara” design it consist of Virgil’s architectural way of thinking and Murakami’s combination of modernism and tradition.
Since your company has been around for some time, do you guys have a favorite designs that you’ve made?
Our favorite designs are the Sayonara series. It’s a pleasure for my eyes in my opinion.
With that previous question in mind, what was your first design that you guys made? How was the turn out on it?
The first design that we made is the “Hentai 69” design. The turn out on it was great since it’s still one of our fans favorite.
I saw that you guys have a Ramune design, which is awesome btw. Is that your all time favorite Japanese drink? If not, what are your go tos? Got any go to snacks as well?
Leticia’s favorite is a glass of extra cold Lemon Sour. My favorite is every drink that has Calpis or Yakult in it. Oh, and you can definitely wake us up for some good onigiri’s.
I know we all have some addiction to anime and video games, what are your guys’ favorite or go to anime/video games? Would you love to do a design based off of them?
Leticia’s: Can I pick both? Zelda and Horizon Zero Dawn. My escape from reality.
James: Smash. Come Battlefield, 1v1, 3 stock, 7 min, no items.
Not Smash per se, but I would love to collab with Nintendo once.
I would like to get your opinion on this. There has been a recent surge of anime clothing being more acceptable in society and street wear. Where do you see this going?
It’s great to see anime being more acceptable in society and fashion. It dispels the negative stereotypes around the subculture. Where do I see this going? WELL, MORE ANIME SERIES AND CLOTHES!!
I’ve been curious, how is the anime/japanese culture community out there in the Netherlands? Would you guys ever vendor out here in the US, specifically Los Angeles?
I believe it’s the same community as in the US except in a waaaay smaller scale. The only thing different that I noticed the US have way more into sports car with anime bumper stickers than here, haha. We are boring when it comes to cars. And yes, that would be a dream come true + we can FINALLY meet up
I know you guys recently did that collaboration with Doki Doki Literature Club. It’s amazing that you guys were able to get the licensing for it, which I know would normally be hard. Can you describe the experience behind getting the license?
Contact them so you can tell them your story and plan which they can’t refuse.
Does Kaomoji have any future plans or collaborations lined up? Who would you like to do a collaboration with?
WE ARE COLLABING WITH HATSUNE MIKU!!!!
