Los Angeles Comic Con made a return this past December 3rd-5th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This 3 day event featured everything you can think of: comics, games, and sci-fi and pop culture in a convention center! Before I get into the nitty gritty of things about this convention, let’s talk safety!
Safety was a huge concern for me since we are still experiencing Covid. How CCLA arranged their convention is that they had 3 entrances spread around the convention center where they perform 2 checks: Covid vaccination/negative test and security. They even provided free PCR tests if you were unable to get it in advance. In addition, they required everyone to wear their face coverings unless you were eating or drinking. On top of this, they made everything more spaces out to allow for more room. This was fantastic and made me, as well as others feel a bit more comfortable attending. Now, that I’m done talking about this stuff, let’s talk CON!
Attendees had an area where they were able to pick up their badges, but for Press, we had to pick up our badges inside the hall. Each badge type looked different and this is how mine looked.
After you go through the lines, you finally make it into the convention center! But wait, there’s more… you still gotta walk up those stairs..and now… you made it! WELCOME TO THE EXHIIBIT HALL/ARTIST ALLEY!
Exhibit Hall & Artist Alley
There are a ton of vendors and artists here featuring all sorts of work. This is the chance for you to find out new and upcoming brands, check out some of your favorites, and even network (if you are in that industry). How this area was organized is that a certain section of the hall was for Artist Alley, in the back area was the Main Stage, and the rest of it was the Exhibit Hall.
Once you want to take a break from buying so much, you can head on over to the other side of the convention center for some eSports, Gaming, and Anime!
eSports, Gaming, and Anime Area
In this area, they had a stage for some panels, areas to play some PC games, join in on some tournaments, pick up some anime, video game or trading card merchandise, and more!
Here is just a sample of what we saw.
TOP 5 Highlights (for ME!)
HAND SANITZER!
At each of the doors to the halls or any entrance (for the most part) had a hand sanitizer dispenser. On top of that, there were a couple of booths that gave our free sanitizing wipes! Sorry, I don’t have any pictures, but you can have an idea.
FOOOOD TRUCKS
I know this may sound weird for a highlight, but after walking through the conventions halls for hours, you will get hungry. Instead of having to leave the convention center, LACC had an area through the exhibit hall that contains all the wonderful food trucks. There were tons to choose from, so if you had a specific food craving, you were set! Here is what it looked like when you walked outside.
I’m not going to lie, it was pretty crowded and a bunch of people had the same idea…so lines were long! With this in mind, we headed straight for the truck that had the fewest people. We were so darn hungry! I’m not mad at our decision though. We ended up at Baby’s Badass Burgers. I ordered thge She’s Smokin! burger with a side of fries. OH MAN! IT WAS SO GOOD! We were all so stumped on how this burger was cooked well done and yet, very juicy! See the picture below!
TUBBY NUGGET (@tubbynugget)
I remember following Tubby Nugget for some time on Instagram and we happen to run into one of our homies at this convention. We didn’t know that he’s cousins with the creators of Tubby Nugget and oh boy! It was a pleasure meeting them! Their content is definitely wholesome vibes and I love it! If you guys are interested in checking it out, here is a link to their content. @tubbynugget
STAR TREK!
As odd as this sounds (especially from an Anime group), yes! Star Trek! We aren’t huge fans or anything for Star Trek, but what I thought was really cool is that LACC had a section for all of their Star Trek fandom! It was located in the rooms above the eSports, Gaming and Anime Area. They had all sorts of things to check out: artwork, panels, photo sets and more! Here are some pictures of what you could of seen.
COSPLAYERS
This is one of the things that make conventions so great! You get a chance to see people’s hard work and dedication to their cosplays and the ones we saw at the event were amazing. Here are just a small portion of what to expect. (Sorry, there would of been more, but I was shy to ask! xD)
Overall, I’m really glad that I came to this convention. It’s been a while experiencing this type of event with fellow people who enjoy the same things I do! I got to see a lot new things, tons of vendors and artists, and was the perfect time to hang out with the homies!
If you get a chance, you should come out next year. Come geek out with us!
Thank you Los Angeles Comic Con for having me. Can’t wait until next year!
