Learning Japanese: Mobile Apps

Konnichiwa mina-san! Hello everyone, I hope y’all are having a good week so far!

I just wanted to share with you some of the mobile tools I’ve been using to learn Japanese, maybe it will help!

  1. Infinite Japanese created by Jernung
  2. Write It! Japanese created by Jernung
  3. Human Japanese created by Brak Software
  4. Crunchy Roll (you already know bro)

The first two on the list are Infinite Japanese and Write It! Japanese both created by Jernung. I’ve been using these two the most lately because of how easy it is to start and pick up where I’ve left off.

  • Infinite Japanese is a vocabulary game that teaches reading and listening using pictures and falling meteors. As you play you have to correctly identify the noun before the meteor hits the ground, simple yet fun! It can be setup to teach Romanji (English), Hiragana/Katakana, and Kanji with or without sound. It’s very flexible!
  • If you are learning to read and write Hiragana and Katakana Write It! Japanese is a very helpful tool. The characters are broken down into bite sized groups. It teaches you through text, audio, and your finger to practice the character strokes. Very simple and easy to open and get to practicing!
  • Human Japanese was the very first app I’ve used in my learning journey. It’s a very robust and enjoyable resource; it’s very awesome. What I mean is that it presents the Japanese language with a good amount of context. Human Japanese adds bits of Japanese culture, language history and nuances, and even recent changes! You get so much information!
  • Crunchy Roll. What more can I say. There is plenty of anime for all and anyone any age! Watch anime, read manga (translate it when you get that good and turn those subs off!)

Get your friends into it so when you all go to Japan, a local Japanese restaurant, or face off with a samurai from the enemy clan you can exchange hellos, appreciations, and culture!

Ja mata!
