FateZero: Philosophy – The Prince & Kingship

FateZero Season 1 Episode 11

So, I must start off by mentioning that I started watching Fate Zero in September of this year.

I love the use of historic spirits as well as the character development, and at this point, I have actually already finished the entire series of Fate Zero, though I am currently on season 2 of Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

Episode 11: Discussing the Grail, offers some intriguing philosophies regarding kingship.

Sabers perspective = Serve the kingdom selflessly
Riders perspective = people should serve the king, whose extravagant ambitions inspire them in turn

This particular story piques my interest as much of the literature I have immersed myself in as of late (The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli) speaks on the proper way to rule as well as survival.

Saber is King Author who ultimately lost and regrets it while Rider is Alexander The Great, Who lost but has no regrets. This is a very worth while debate.

Much of what i have been reading over the years speaks on the concept of no regret and moving forward in life. Plenty of self-help and business books speak on not being so concerned with what happened and went wrong in the past, but rather, a focus on the present and the future. This much was actually mentioned on an interview hosted by Tim Ferris for his podcast. We will never be perfect. We can, however, be fit for the goals we set our eyes on and therefore focus on our strengths and more or less let our weaknesses and failures blow in the wind.

Sabers perspective of serving the people is very contrary to this concept. That’s actually an ideology that I have been taught since high school.

The whole concept of serving others, which is noble on the surface, can actually breed disappointment and even self loathing. That may, in part, be why it appears so noble!

Theoretically, in order to properly serve others you would need to accurately keep account of all the desires of those of which you are to serve. People are ultimately fickle and they change their minds and feelings as the wind blows…so your goal will never be accomplished as it is one that will never be achieved.

The best goals are those which are achievements both in practice and in execution. The long term things take care of themselves. It is the small day by day things that we should concern ourselves with.

To return to the analogy of kingship, as a creator, musician, I rule a specific realm. That realm is mine. I do not chase every trend that pops up, as not every trend resonates with me. I only make things that resonate with my soul. Things that I consider to be apart of my realm. Do I keep my clients in mind? To an existent, absolutely…but fame is a funny thing.

If you try to please everyone…and you are even capable at pleasing most…you must know that those same people will ultimately abandon you as soon as your next move fails to resonate with their own ideals and desires.

For this reason, though I initially struggled with the kingship positions of Archer and Rider…I realize that I side with them over Saber. A true leader leads. Someone that serves others will always be a step behind, and is therefore by nature a follower. There is certainly nothing wrong with being a follower, which may be contrary to our perspectives today in the light of social media, just don’t call yourself the king…as you will be incorrect. (You are however a leader if you choose to be the first follower…but more on that in another post!)

Above all, maintain consistency. Don’t make your motivation be simply to serve, instead let that be a treat! You will last much longer if u do your own thing and people are attracted to what you create,as you are being yourself….authentically…so there is plenty more where that came from!
